However, the next day brought a drastic dip for both the films as it was a working day. Though, the increase in collections of Satyameva Jayate havent't been as notable as in the case of Gold, the John Abraham starrer has managed to maintain a steady hold at the ticket windows.

Gold has therefore become Akshay Kumar's best first day performer. Both, #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate have recorded strong figures over the *5-day extended weekend*.

According to Box Office India, while most circuits reported equally healthy numbers for both films, Gold took the lead in circuits like Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, East Punjab and Mumbai thanks to Kumar's massy fan following.

Taran took to micro-blogging site Twitter and wrote, "And the biz multiplies on Sun..."

Total: Rs 40.75 crore nett approx. The combined collection of the two movies is Rs 125 cr. According to the website, the film will be closing its first week at around Rs 50 crore box office collection.

On the third, fourth and fifth day of its release (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), Reema Kagti's sports drama Gold raked in Rs 37.95 crore. However, the film is facing tough competition from John Abraham starrer Satyamev Jayate.

Gold saw a massive opening, hoarding Rs 25.25 crore on the initial day.

The film hit the screens on August 15 this year and the Independence Day holiday helped it gain a foothold as far as domestic box office collection is concerned.

While Akshay's Gold had released on 3,050 screens in India, John's action drama was released on 2,500 screens.
