Watts initially said his wife and children were missing, claiming his wife had disappeared without a trace, leaving her purse and keys at home in Frederick, located about 30 miles north of Denver.

"Chris Watts, the husband of Shanann, has been placed into custody and is awaiting charges".

Police said Watts is being held at the Weld County Jail, no charges have yet been filed.

CBS Denver reports that Chris Watts confessed to killing Shanann Watts, 34, who was 15 weeks pregnant, and daughters Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3.

Prosecutors say they believe the mother and children were killed in their home and the bodies later moved, but no cause of death has been made public in the case.

"My heart is racing a mile a minute", husband Chris Watts said.

Watts was booked into the Weld County Jail overnight.

"I don't know what to do right now".

Neighbors who spoke to 9NEWS on Wednesday said they were shocked to hear the family was missing.

Bell said she had not slept the night before, in disbelief and shock as news spread that Christopher Watts had been arrested.

"That's awesome", Chris says. I hope that she's somewhere safe right now and with the kids.

However, representatives from the district attorney's office noted that the home was released by law enforcement at approximately midnight Wednesday, so it's not likely they will go back to collect more evidence.

The FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigation are also investigating.

Chris said his wife informed him she was planning to go with their girls' to a friend's house.

Throughout the morning, Chris said he called Shannan and sent her several text messages but received no response, which struck him as unusual.

Watts continued: "I just want everybody to just come home".

The Frederick Police Department posted on Twitter, "On August 13, 2018, the Frederick Police Department was notified of 3 missing persons".

One of her friends posted on Facebook that Shanann left her phone, purse, vehicle seats and children's medicine at home Monday morning, CBS Denver reported.

According to the Frederick Police Department, authorities believe they've also found the bodies of Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, but would not disclose where they found the bodies. "This is completely unlike her", the friend said.

Breaking in to a smile, he then said: "I just want them to come back".

In one clip posted on Facebook just two months ago, on June 14, Bella sings, "My daddy is a hero, he helps me grow up strong". "It was an emotional conversation - I'll leave it at that", he replied.

Shanann Watts' brother, Frankie Rzucek, wrote on Facebook on Wednesday, "That piece of sh*t may he rot in hell".
