Chad Kelly to replace Paxton Lynch as No. 2 quarterback for Broncos

What Chad Kelly has created is a quarterback conundrum for head coach Vance Joseph. Both of his scores came on connections with running back Roc Thomas, a 13-yard strike in the first quarter and the 78-yard play just before halftime.

Chad Kelly had to wait 644 days to play in his first football game since his glorious collegiate career ended at Ole Miss in 2016.

Denver's third quarterback of the evening, rookie Chad Kelly, had the bigger night, hitting on 14 of 21 passes for 177 yards and two scores.

John Elway made a radio appearance in which he seemed to confirm the Broncos have at least had discussions about bringing in a veteran quarterback.

This creates even more issues for a team which maybe questionable decisions at the position since Peyton Manning was a Broncos quarterback.

"I'm coming out here to learn each and every day", Kelly said.

Kelly will replace Paxton Lynch who had a rough game on Saturday night.

"I think all of those guys are doing extremely well".

Lynch signed a four-year, $9,476,296 contract with the Broncos that runs through next season so the team is either going to have a very expensive third-stringer this season or they might just want to consider cutting their losses as well as him.

If the Broncos had to choose between keeping Lynch over a guy like, say, Isaiah McKenzie right now, the choice would be clear.

Joseph added that Lynch still has "potential" but that his performance hasn't matched it yet. At this point it would be a surprise if he is on the team's season-opening, 53-man roster.

This is where the very hard aspect of swallowing your pride as a general manager comes into play.

"He's one year removed from college, but he was on a redshirt freshman year, so to speak, here with the Denver Broncos last year", Schlereth said. There is no doubt the Broncos organization has invested a lt of time, money and effort into trying to develop Paxton Lynch and apparently it hasn't worked out. It just didn't work out.
