Normal service resumes as Man City give Chelsea a lesson

'We are trying, ' Guardiola said.

Pep Guardiola hailed Bernardo Silva's Community Shield performance as "a masterpiece" and suggested the Portuguese is now one of the first names on his Manchester City team sheet.

Guardiola will also want to send out a statement of intent ahead of the kick off of the new Premier League season next weekend. He took one touch with his right to steady himself, before firing past Willy Caballero with his left.

It was Aguero's 200th City goal - making the Argentina striker the first player to reach that milestone for the Eastlands outfit.

But ominously for Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester United - all hoping to dethrone City - Guardiola revealed his players are still well short of full fitness after only a handful of training sessions following the World Cup.

"I didn't expect that level in that period after a short, short training session, like from Fernandinho, Sergio - a lot of them".

For Chelsea, Jorginho has been given a deep midfield role after joining the Blues in the Summer.

"I think at the end of last season, the knee operation.he suffered the previous years with a little bit of a problem and Ramon Cugat, the best doctor in the world, made the ideal surgery and now he feels free".

Guardiola heaped praise on man-of-the-match Aguero after his match-winning brace and Silva for a "masterpiece" of a performance that ensures he is the first name on the team sheet against Arsenal. "He did really well", Guardiola said.

There has been little time to work on Sarri's trademark attacking style and, with another friendly against Lyon in midweek, the Italian fears his team will be under-prepared going into their opener at Huddersfield on Saturday.

But on Sunday he looked a proper first teamer, several times bursting forward from the halfway line to link well with the equally impressive Bernardo Silva and Aguero.

What they lacked in sharpness they more than made up for in quality against a Chelsea side struggling for coherence under new boss Sarri. "Our pre-season until now has been a bit insane I think and so we have to work".
