Guardiola: It would've been a mistake for Jorginho to join City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is prepared to help Joe Hart find the exit door after the shot-stopper returned to the club.

The Italy global was heavily linked with a move to Man City this summer from Napoli, with the Premier League champions reportedly having already agreed on terms with the Serie A side.

"No, I'm not disappointed", the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich Coach told reporters. We tried but my advice always is that players should go where they want.

It would have been a mistake if he had come here when he wanted to go to Maurizio and Chelsea.

The football they played last term was near ideal and the title was all but wrapped up during an 18-game winning streak - another record - before new year.

'If he decides to go to Chelsea for the reasons he has explained or will explain, then all the best for him'.

First team stars such as Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, Ederson, David Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Kyle Walker and John Stones have not made the journey to compete in the annual International Champions Cup pre-season tournament with most not expected back until a week before the start of the domestic season in England.

Former England goalkeeper Joe Hart, meanwhile, is poised for some surprise playing time in the USA having returned to the club from a loan spell at West Ham United. "I know it is not easy for him", said Guardiola.

Hart, who has been with City since 2006, has one year left on his contract with the club.

"Joe is our player", Guardiola said.

"We will try and find a solution", said Guardiola, who added that he is prepared for Hart to "stay here" if no acceptable offer materialises.

"He is a player who is one of the most incredible professionals I have ever met". He's training like a young guy of 18 years old.

"Perhaps my style of play is not something that is seen in England, I really hope that it is a good fit for the game over here and I will certainly be doing everything I can to make sure it works out".

"I need to be an important player at that club and I think that can only happen with a permanent move".
