That precise recipe for success is working wonders for Epic Games, which is raking in cash hand-over-fist from Fortnite.

Everyone's favorite Battle Royale shooter Fortnite is going to be celebrating it's first birthday this coming week, and Epic is bringing festivities to the players in the form of birthday-themed cosmetics.

PlayStation 4 player iDropz_Bodies was the victor in this week's competition, taking not only the tournament title but the $50,000 elimination bonus as well to total at least $110,000 in earnings.

Battle Royale games are expected to make at least $US2 billion in revenue in 2018 - about seven times the amount they made a year ago. Each node in the matchmaking cluster keeps a large list of open dedicated servers that it can work with, randomly distributed by region to keep a roughly proportional amount of free servers for each.

Week 2 of the Fortnite Summer Skirmish Series saw a much different format than Week 1, as each of the competing players played 10 public matches. The Playground mode is making matches for groups of one to four players at a time. As a result the game made $614m in March and April combined.

There are three quests in all. The game itself is free on all the platforms; it's the in-game purchases that users have to buy.

To fix the limited time mode, Epic split the Playground's matchmaking service into its own service cluster. This stopped the server jam from affecting other modes, allowing developers to fix the service until it could get back online. Thankfully, this time things feel a little more wholesome.

Epic's full post detailing the birthday challenges, and other plans, can be found below.

The Rise Till Dawn Fortnite Tournament hosted by Red Bull and Tyler "Ninja" Belvins is set to kick off on Saturday, July 21st, and we have the event's stream, rules and info covered for you.

This, of course, could have been a cautious estimate from Epic and we could see the game go live sooner. but it could also mean that we'll see the game come back at 2pm BST at the earliest.
