Unai Emery continues to work Arsenal hard in training

"I think my first idea is to have five captains in the team", Emery added. "Only if he is a big opportunity".

The new Arsenal boss snapped up midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi earlier this week but with Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Franics Coquelin all leaving the club over the past few months, it seems Emery wants another option in the middle of the park and Gomes is on his radar.

Arsenal, who finished sixth in the Premier League last season, take on Manchester City to start the new campaign on August 12.

"We signed the players who we needed and only if one player is a big opportunity for us will we sign them".

Emery also downplayed reports that he's interested in reuniting with midfielder Steven N'Zonzi, who played under him at Sevilla.

"I know him [N'Zonzi] but we didn't do movement for him", he said.

The 27-year-old midfielder has scored 58 goals in his 327 appearances for the club, scoring in two FA Cup finals, so it's no big surprise fans have had restless evenings about his contract expiration because he is one of the best candidate favourites at the North London club.

"Koscielny is the first captain now, then we are looking for the player who the personality is the best in the dressing room to keep respect of players".

Ramsey has only one year left on his deal and has yet to commit his future.

"This [Ramsey's contract] is one question for the player, the club, but my opinion - I said to them - I think he is one important player for me".

"I'm very happy with him", said Emery. "It's clear that we have [a lot] of goalkeepers but we want to work in the future with three goalkeepers in the first team. The information with Arsene is also important for me but the best is my direct relationship and conversations with the players".

"I want to work with Petr Cech, with Bernd Leno, with Emiliano Martinez, with Matt Macey, with Ospina", he said. I want to become part of the club's history and to achieve great things here.
