Trump lawyers called Comey 'Machiavellian' in note to Mueller

Just one day after Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump's personal lawyer said he had no concerns about Michael Cohen testifying before the special counsel as long as Cohen tells the truth, Michael Cohen's new attack dog is firing back.

But Sunday on "Meet the Press", Giuliani told Chuck Todd that Trump's team has "pretty much decided" that it won't sit down with Mueller, unless the special counsel can prove that there's "some basis for this investigation".

Cohen's home, office and a hotel room in NY were raided by the FBI in April as part of an investigation into his business dealings.

Indications that Cohen is willing to flip have, in recent weeks, grown from rumors and whispers to Cohen's own words in an interview with George Stephanopoulos for ABC News, in which he declared his loyalty to family and country supersede loyalty to the Trump family. Giuliani's warning him implicitly here that they're going to go after him hammer and tongs if he tries to implicate Trump in anything, which should go without saying but somehow feels more menacing once it's been said. I do know there's no evidence of wrongdoing with President Trump. First, he's been dropping increasingly heavy hints lately that he'll have no choice but to cooperate with prosecutors if someone (hint, hint) doesn't pay for his legal defense, which the Trump family had been kind enough to contribute to - until recently. "And my sources are telling me that he said that the truth is not you or your client's friend".

Giuliani said he was not concerned by the interview.

"Mr. Comey continued his Machiavellian behavior after President Trump was elected", Kasowitz wrote.

Since returning to Trumps' orbit as his new lead attorney, Giuliani has become a fixture on television, occasionally making news and routinely promising anyone who will listen that he will bring the Russian Federation collusion investigation to a close.

Cohen repeated previous denials that he had any involvement with Russian attempts to interfere with the 2016 presidential election, but he refused to criticize the investigation led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller. Giuliani told ABC that investigators must first show a "factual basis for the investigation".

Trump and his advisers have hammered at the notion that several members of Mueller's team are affiliated with the Democratic Party and can not be objective.

"It's our firm belief, and we think nothing contradicts this, the president did nothing wrong", he said.

These sources would not comment on whether Cohen's attorney, Guy Petrillo, has been meeting with prosecutors in NY and referred inquiries about any potential case to Petrillo.

Trump has said he does not see Cohen turning against him.
