For the Lakers, it's a dicey position, offering some of their young core players and future draft picks, knowing it would rid them of their depth if they do land a super-team or harm their future if they land Leonard, but not George or James.

Free agency begins Saturday at 9:01 p.m. PT, but players can not officially sign until next Friday.

George and Leonard are Southern California natives who have expressed interest in the Lakers. This is one of several reasons why neither of them may obtain him.

Haynes notes that the Los Angeles Clippers "haven't abandoned pursuit" of Leonard and could potentially trade for him this offseason. Essentially, the Clippers would have to relinquish much of the assets they had received from the Detroit Pistons in their trade of Blake Griffin.

The Lakers' acquisition of James has been speculated at great length since last summer.

The five-time NBA champions have previously stated they would not trade the 2014 NBA Finals MVP to a Western Conference team but their efforts to fix the relationship with the All-Star forward have apparently not had the desired effect.

Recently, it's been suggested James would be willing to join the youthful Lakers without significant upgrades to their roster. The 2014 NBA Finals MVP has demanded to be traded. "Understanding, especially, where my boys are at this point in their age". Fultz was the No. 1 pick in last year's National Basketball Association draft. "So sitting down and considering everything, my family, is a huge part of whatever I'll decide to do in my career and it will continue to be that". It is make sense of that James also wants to make his final decision on his next franchise next month. He could opt out and re-sign with Cleveland, although the strong current from national media is James appears ready to move again.

George is in a similar situation as James.

James isn't expected to attend the meeting, which is the first significant chance for the 76ers to make case a free-agent case to James, league sources said.

According to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Ramona Shelburne, and Brian Windhorst, there is mounting pressure for the Los Angeles Lakers to trade for Leonard before free agency starts on July 1.

San Antonio has seemingly come to the conclusion that trading Leonard would be the best play to run, but it can not afford to let him go without a reasonable return.

But if a team like the Lakers is desperate to land Leonard, then it could help the Spurs.
