Saudi Arabia shocked Egypt with a 2-1 win in both teams' final game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday.

El Hadary takes the record from Faryd Mondragon, who appeared in goal for Colombia in 2014 just three days after his 43rd birthday.

Salem Al-Dawsari sealed the win for Saudi Arabia in added time of the second half.

The Saudis continued to be in the ascendancy in the second half and El Hadary produced a brilliant fingertip save to push a firm header by Housain Al-Mogahwi over the bar, before denying Muhannad Asiri from the resultant corner.

Both sides were already packing their bags before they met in the heat of the Volgograd Arena, having failed to pick up a single point between them in their previous group matches.

The Al-Hilal man was key to Saudi Arabia's victory.

"We've been told over and over again we were too defensive but we qualified for the World Cup with the same approach, and for the first time in 28 years", he said. He had to wait over five minutes while VAR checked the award of the penalty but it didn't bother him one bit as he buried the spot-kick with the minimum of fuss at what was a crucial point in the game.
