To exit the auto and head to the plane that would take her to Texas, FLOTUS wore a green hooded jacket that features graffiti on the back that reads "I really don't care, do u?"

Whatever good PR was hoped to be cultivated from this excursion was dashed when a report leaked that the First Lady wore a jacket with "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?" on the way to visit said children.

When is a jacket not just a jacket?

Media personality Toure wondered in a Tweet whether Melania Trump or those around her gave much thought to the message on the jacket.

Reached for comment Thursday, Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for the first lady, told TPM: "It's a jacket". She put the jacket back on as she disembarked from her plane back at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington.

Like it or not, Mrs. Trump's jacket, which reportedly retailed at $39, had her trending on Twitter.

However, it was what the First Lady wore while boarding the plane that got everyone's attention. Then, when people criticize her fashion choices, the first lady is able to respond through a spokesperson by slamming the media.

"It is my hope that Members of Congress will finally reach across the aisle and work together to solve this problem with common sense immigration reform that secures our borders and keeps families together", she added. "First Lady" written in black marker across the red and white bars, Mrs. Trump also signed the flag, which the children gave to her.

"It's a jacket", Grisham said.

However, social media users were quick to jump on the provocative message and use it as fodder to question her motives. She is down now at the border "because it really bothered her to be looking at this and to seeing it, as it bothered me, as it bothered everybody at this table", he said at the White House.

And over the weekend, the Flotus" spokesman said she wished to see the crisis tackled "with heart', suggesting she was not in favour of the enforced separation.

Melania broke her silence on the detentions which have seen immigrant children separated from their families earlier this week. It's more like a dog whistle for Trump's anti-immigrant supporters: "I'm publicly supporting immigrants, but you really know I don't care".

She visited a schoolroom at Upbring and chatted with about 20 young girls and boys who had school folders on their desks.
