"They were disappointed, but they both said, 'Take care of yourself, we're really anxious about you, '" Markle explained, adding that Meghan did cry over the phone.

In regards to watching the wedding, Markle said he "cried a little" over his "beautiful" daughter - "I was very proud, and I couldn't see a better moment in my life". "He said, 'I like him, he's a gentleman and he protects Meghan, and I really value that'".

Markle missed out on walking his daughter walk down the aisle.

Thomas Markle told broadcaster ITV on Monday that he had several phone conversations with Harry, including one in which the prince asked for permission to marry his daughter.

Saying that Harry is "lucky" to have his daughter, Thomas revealed how he warned the Prince to "never raise his hand" towards her.


He said that he expects his daughter and Harry will want to try for children soon.

Of Harry, Markle said: "He's quite easy to talk to". It's a whole different lifestyle but I think she can always rise to that occasion.

"Our conversation was I was complaining I didn't like Donald Trump", Markle shared of one conversation with the royal. Most agreed, however, that the royal family would not have approved of this interview.

Meghan's parents are divorced and while mother Doria Ragland, 61, has met Harry and attended the wedding, Thomas Markle is yet to meet the prince.

"I sort of disagreed with that".

He added: "I want to have a nice, normal relationship with my royal family as well now".

"It's going to have to work out for them and me as well".
