Theatres is launching its own $19.95-a-month movie viewing pass. Since its inception in 2011, AMC Stubs has continued to evolve to meet the needs of its customers, as it did in 2016 when we introduced the free tier, AMC Stubs Insider. MoviePass, in comparison, charges $9.95 a month for one movie a day. Will you make the switch from MoviePass to Stubs A-List?

Coming Soon reports that AMC Theatres has announced an alternative to MoviePass, a new tier on its AMC Stubs program called AMC Stubs A-List. AMC Stubs A-List subscribers will receive free upgrades on popcorn and soda, free refills on large popcorn, a free popcorn and soda on their birthdays, express service at the box office and concession stand, no online ticketing fees and an automatic enrollment into AMC's rewards program.

Stubs A-List, which rolls out June 26, will allow members to see three movies each week for a monthly fee of $19.95. However, AMC is hoping that the convenience of A-List outweighs the low cost of MoviePass, which can be a frustrating service to use at times. Essentially, if you pay $20 per month, you can see up to three movies a week, plus other benefits which are meant to give Moviepass a run for their money.

MoviePass responded on its Twitter account on Wednesday.

AMC spokesperson Ryan Noonan said that AMC "has made no move to block MoviePass at our locations and it will continue to be accepted".

Will AMC's new plan give MoviePass a run for its money?

MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe on the success of the company's $10 plan and the company's acquisition by Helios and Matheson.

MoviePass announced that it exceeded 3 million subscribers last week and that it projects it will have more than 5 million by the end of the year. Stubs-A-List also allows for users to purchase tickets ahead of time online or through the AMC app. MoviePass users can only purchase tickets on the day of a showing and, in most cases, they have to be at the theater before the ticket can be purchased.

Under the terms of the agreement between Imax and AMC, the theater chain will ensure there is no reduction in Imax's overall economics.
