Swedish police say several people were injured when shots were fired Monday in Malmo, Sweden's third-largest city.

Aftonbladet said the shootings took place next to a police station so officers were on the scene immediately.

There were no indications the incident was related to terrorism, and the police had made no arrests, said force spokeswoman Maya Forstenius.

Witness were quoted as saying that at least one attacker was armed with an automatic weapon.

Police spokesman Stephan Soderholm said: "We have sealed off the area and are conducting interviews and will interview those who are injured if they can or are willing to speak".

The shots caused screaming among bystanders but police quickly said there was no reason for the public to worry.

Malmo has seen a wave of crime in recent years, which has included shooting attacks.
