A shooting outside a Walmart Supercenter in Tumwater, Washington Sunday evening was the end result of a crime spree from the now deceased gunman, police said.

Suspect shot and killed in Walmart parking lot after leading police on chase.

He then left his auto and attempted to carjack at least two other people, fired shots at the vehicles, and demanded owners abandon their cars.

Kyle Fievez, the son of the injured driver, a 48-year-old man, phoned The Olympian Monday morning and said his father had been shot twice, once in the shoulder near his neck and once in the side of his body, the newspaper reported.

One of the people Day shot remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police have not released the identities of the armed civilians or the suspect. "He is a hero", Adams told CNN affiliate KOMO. Something happened at the Walmart in Tumwater, Washington yesterday, but looking at multiple reports from the scene it sounds like we're not exactly sure what it was.

"The suspect then attempted a second carjacking at Walmart, and was approached by two armed civilians".

The gunman then went to Walmart, Wohl said. Megan Chadwick, a bystander who huddled with her four children during the shooting, praised the actions of the men who confronted the suspect.

Witnesses then reported that the suspect from the carjacking had entered a Walmart store "and fired shots at a display case", a police statement said. "(The suspect) hijacks a auto apparently to get here, then hijacks another vehicle. "Some people were moving more slowly, they were still kinda confused what was going on, so I just started shouting, 'go, go, go!'" Wohl said they later confirmed that the man doing the shooting was the same person involved in the carjacking.

Darren Gossler of Elma told the Tacoma News Tribune that he was in the store when the shooting started. Heard about 5 or 6 pops. "When I got outside, I heard more pop, pop, pop". "Ducked under some cars and ran to Costco".

Another woman who was shopping with her children told the network that they all fled the shop and hid behind a parked vehicle. Witnesses told KOMO that a total of three bystanders pulled guns on the suspect and at least one of them fired.

Brian Adams of Olympia said he was picking up pool supplies when he heard the shots and saw people running.

He began to run and found his way out to through the massive store's doors by the pharmacy.

She said about that time the neighboring Costco store started evacuating its customers.
