Best Trade Offers Cavs Can Make for Kawhi Leonard

The 26-year-old played just nine games in the 2017-18 season, with a mysterious quad injury keeping him out for longer than initially expected.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard's preferred destination is Los Angeles, most likely with the Lakers.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been one of several team to call the San Antonio Spurs about the availability of Kawhi Leonard.

James and Leonard being on the same team does seem a possibility.

Reports surfaced over the weekend that Leonard is determined to play elsewhere despite an Express-News report earlier that said a plan is in place for the All-Star to sit down and discuss "any issues or concerns Leonard may have".

AZCentral.com reported there was no truth to the rumor and the Suns would not trade the pick, but could be part of three-team deal that would get Leonard to the Lakers and have the Spurs avoid taking on Luol Deng's contract. We explore a few potential trade packages they can pull together. Instead, they will certainly try to meet with Leonard first - either in an attempt to resolve this conflict or, at the very least, confirm this is how he feels.

The Lakers would be left to fill the rest of their roster with veteran's minimum contracts, a salary-cap exception of about $4.3 million, and a trade exception of about $1.5 million for trading Larry Nance Jr.to the Cavs.

After going through a five-year rebuilding stretch, this summer was circled by many fans as the summer in which the Lakers would return to showtime. They can also make the pick, sign the player and then wait 30 days and send him to a new team - similar to how they acquired Kevin Love from the Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. Some combination of guard Patrick Beverley, forward Danilo Gallinari and forward Sam Dekker would have to be on the table too, or including both 2018 first-round picks could get San Antonio's attention.
