Despite this development, Kroll also seems to imply that the Todd Phillips' helmed Joker origin story with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and set in an Elseworld-type continuity apart from the DCU is still on the cards too.

Are you excited to see more of Jared Leto's Joker in his own movie? However, it's entirely possible that will happen in the coming months, potentially pushing the Suicide Squad spin-off ahead of the sequel to the poorly-received first film.

The studio is reportedly planning to expand the universe established in Ayer's film by creating standalone movies on its characters. While the critics responded poorly to Suicide Squad, the film was a huge box office success, raking in $746.8 million worldwide. One minute, Ben Affleck still wants to play the character in the DCEU, but reportedly won't be a part of The Batman, which he was initially going to write, direct, and star in. But one thing is for certain: two Joker movies are now being lined up.

The current list of announced projects on the DC Comics slate of movies at Warner Bros is hefty, and there are now four Joker-family movies announced, with Suicide Squad 2 as the fourth which is still evidently on the way. Robbie's Harley Quinn was the clear standout of the otherwise dingy and weird Suicide Squad, so a spin-off featuring her makes flawless sense. The rumours were that Phillips' film would delve into the early history of the Clown Prince of Crime.

One of the - many - overwhelming criticisms of the movie was Leto's lacklustre Joker, which, though little more than a glorified cameo, didn't quite measure up to the freaky tales from the movie's set.
