The fact Samuel has renewed his contract is great news for Barcelonistas.

The France global put pen to paper on the five-year deal on Monday after agreeing terms in the past week.

Barcelona have made an official statement to announce that they have reached an agreement with Samuel Umtiti to extend his current contract with the club.

Before putting pen to paper on a fresh five-year deal, Manchester United had been eyeing a deal for the Frenchman.

With that in mind, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed the centre-back's release fee has been increased by a whopping €440m.

That relatively low release clause had seen him linked with a move away, with Manchester United and Manchester City mentioned.

Umtiti said he was "proud and happy" to have committed his future to the Catalan giants, despite the previous speculation over his future. "From the first day here in Barcelona I felt at home and now I want to stay 15 years".

It's my home. It's a dream to play here, with the best players at, for me, the best club in the world.

Umtiti will then give a brief press conference at theRicard Maxenchs press room at 10:30am before rejoining the France squad for their World Cup preparations.

"I just said the word 'joker.' I don't know how that word is interpreted [in Spain], but you can interpret it as you wish".
