Staff at Tampa International Airport in Florida have helped a dog give birth to eight puppies.

Ellie's job is normally to service her owner, but on Friday, she was the center of attention outside a bar near the F gates.

"I just thank God that everybody is safe, healthy and happy".

Van Atter said she has mobility and pain issues, Nipps said, and the dogs were service dogs, though Eleanor Rigby was still in training.

While traveling through the concourse on the way to catch a flight to Philadelphia, a passenger's service dog unexpectedly went into labor.

"Never seen anything like this".

Dozens of travelers at the airport were gathered around watching the delivery.

City of Tampa Fire Rescue was on the scene to provide support to the new mother and documented the delivery.

Tampa firefighters took pictures and video of the new family and posted them on twitter.

"That's the only little girl we have". They are waiting for two more puppies.

The pair knew two-year-old Eleanor was pregnant and their other dog, Nugget, was the father, but did not realise she was ready to give birth until the puppies arrived.
