Ishant Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara, who are presently playing country cricket for Sussex and Yorkshire, will play the Bengaluru Test.

India's squad for T20I series against Ireland and England: Virat Kohli (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Siddarth Kaul, Umesh Yadav. Amitabh Choudhary, the BCCI secretary, said, "Essentially the impression which might have gone around is wrong and our focus remains Test cricket". Apart from Kohli, other top stars of Indian cricket including R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara are included in the squad.

It is a reality of worldwide schedules as they stand that there isn't enough room for everyone to be available to play every opponent, every time.

MSK Prasad, Chairman of the Senior Selection Committee, echoed the sentiment, saying that Kohli was sitting out of the Afghanistan Test "for a good cause".

Dropped from the Indian Test squad after the home series against Australia in March past year, middle-order batsman Karun Nair is set to return to the India fold with the historic one-off Test match against Afghanistan starting in Bengaluru on June 14. The best batsman in the side giving himself the best chance to succeed in England, or playing in one Test against Afghanistan?

Karun Nair took the sixth specialist batsman's slot in Rohit's absence, while Wriddhiman Saha was set to resume wicketkeeping duties after missing the second and third Tests in South Africa with a hamstring injury. Remember, India has never beaten Australia ever in Australia. After the IPL 2018, India will take on Afghanistan in Bengaluru from June 14 onwards and will then fly to Ireland for T20Is on June 27and 29.

The bits on selection that seemed more intriguing were the fates of India's vice-captains.

"Ajinkya Rahane has missed out on limited-overs squad".

India Squad for three-match T20I series against England: Virat Kohli (Capt), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Siddharth Kaul, Umesh Yadav.

"To represent your country is the most special feeling in the world". That's why I feel MS Dhoni has to be part of that world cup squad.

Asked why no Test regulars were named in the India-A sides for the four-day games, Prasad stated: "We did discuss it". "It will be fantastic preparation for him and also shows his determination". Thakur is yet to play in the five-day format for India.
