Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi resorts to personal attacks and character assassination when he is desperate.

"Our youths made Bengaluru the computer capital but under the Congress rule, the city is turning into a crime capital as the state government is incapable of controlling the situation", Modi claimed at the public meeting, organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party state unit.

On Tuesday, Modi had used the Namo App to communicate with the BJP's Kisan Morcha in Karnataka and asked party workers to publicise the Centre's farmer-friendly schemes.

The Prime Minister said the party was working towards promoting "ease of doing business, "but Congress is ensuring ease of doing murder" in Karnataka".

The attack came ahead of polling for the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, to be held on May 12.

Modi lauded the efforts of BJP workers and citizens whose resistance, he said, forced Congress to drop the project.

Mr Modi said that the Kalaburagi people can bear the scorching heat, they could no longer stand congress government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally in Bengaluru on Thursday. "He helps the Reddy brothers (Janardhana, Karunakara and Somashekara Reddy) and wants to field them in the elections".

Mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy was a minister in the BS Yeddyurappa government, who is leading the BJP campaign in Karnataka.

He said, "Look at the rising illegal mining in the state. Reddy brothers gang, which was in jail. You are trying to get them inducted into Assembly, and you tell to the country that you are fighting against corruption", Gandhi said. "But nothing has really happened", Rahul said.

So why is Gowda suddenly important and how did he respond to PM Modi's comments?

The Congress chief said the farmers did not receive price of crops at 50 per cent above the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

"While the poor people of the country stood in queues and went through troubles post demonetisation, the likes of Chhota Modi looted people's money and escaped", said Gandhi referring to the Nirav Modi scam adding that the PM never speaks on the issue. But the officer and'Karnataka ke veer putra (brave son of Karnataka)' who led saving Jammu and Kashmir for Indiawas repeatedly insulted by the then Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru and Defence Minister KrishnaMenon.
