China: North Korea's Kim Committed to Denuclearization

The exact date and location has yet to be fixed for the meeting between Trump and Kim, who lobbed personal insults and lambasted each other previous year over North Korea's nuclear arms ambitions.

The North has long demanded the withdrawal of America's military from the divided peninsula, but Thursday's report said reduced troop levels are not meant to be a bargaining chip in nuclear talks.

The three are believed to be in a North Korean labor camp.

On April 29, The New York Times reported that a South Korean spokesman said Kim would give up nuclear weapons for a promise that the USA would not invade North Korea.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she could not confirm details about the release, but she said Washington was "cautiously optimistic" about its ongoing talks with Pyongyang.

North Korea also freed US citizens during visits by former Presidents Bill Clinton, in 2009 and Jimmy Carter, in 2010. -North Korea summit this month. He was flown back to the United States last June in a vegetative state and died at a hospital in OH shortly after.
