Local students to join National School Walkout, set for Friday

High school students in Chapel Hill plan another walkout for stricter gun laws Friday, but this one will carry consequences.

Students walked out March 14 in protest of the Parkland, Florida, shootings.

That is the day scheduled for the "National School Walkout".

In addition, the Board of Education has provided direction that April 20 will be a day of student voice and expression.

He said he was in his office when "my secretary comes running in and says there's a report of gunfire".

At that moment, a group of at least 20 girls were coming out of a locker room to head to gym class.

Vioral and Perdue, the other walkout organizer, say they support increasing the age to buy a firearm from 18 to 21, among other gun-control measures.

According to ABC News, the National School Walkout event across the nation is planned for 10:00 a.m., local time.

During the first nationwide school walkout in March, Leon County students who would have wanted to participate were on spring break.

"I thought, originally, it would just be my school but, obviously, it's grown", she said. Using the hashtag #ArmMeWith, educators are encouraged to propose other resources they'd rather be armed with instead of guns, such as books, art and music programs, nurses and school counselors.

"Young people are voters too".
