Stoke looked set for a first win in 10 games when Peter Crouch took advantage of Joe Hart's fumble to score.

"The game is barely any less crucial for West Ham who have five games remaining after Stoke - but all of them against teams in the top nine".

Referee Michael Oliver, officiating his first match since last week's controversial Champions League quarter final between Juventus and Real Madrid had already ruled out three efforts on goal before the visitors registered. West Ham's goalscorer Carroll reflected on the last-gasp handball that put paid to a potential victor from Hernandez.
