The benches cleared twice and NY supplied the majority of the offensive fireworks in a wild affair at Fenway Park, the kind of game that can only turn up the heat on one of the oldest rivalries in all of sports. Austin rushed the mound after being struck by a pitch from Kelly.

Sure enough, nearly every member of the playing-staff could read those signals clearly also. It seems every time these teams meet up it takes well over the average time of a ball game to figure out the victor.

"I was ready to defend myself", he said. Martinez would have preferred Boston retaliate right there and not given Austin any thought that he was getting away scot-free.

NY jumped on Boston's bullpen, adding four more runs over next three innings. The biggest from JD Martinez; a grand slam in the fifth brought the game within two.

"I think it's probably over with", Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

Not only did the Yankees get a Sanchez home run in the first inning, Giancarlo Stanton crushed a two-run triple to centre field.

An Austin RBI single gave the Yankees a 5-1 lead in the third. Sanchez, who was hitting.056 coming into the day, added another homer in the fourth during his three-hit night to go with four RBI. In a possible act of damage control in support of their high-priced left-hander, the Red Sox announced that Price was removed from the game for precautionary reasons after experiencing a sensation in his left hand.

Red Sox committed no errors in their first 10 games, the franchise's longest streak to begin any season. Sonny Gray takes the hill for the Yanks as Rick Porcello counters him for the Red Sox. Tanaka (2-1) picked up the victory despite allowing six runs on seven hits over five innings.
