Cicilline: Trump firing of Mueller would 'obstruct justice'

He also left the door open to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the former FBI director appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to oversee the investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation during the 2016 election.

The raid on Cohen's office was conducted by the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan and was based at least partly on a referral from Mueller, according to Cohen's lawyer, Stephen Ryan.

The fertilizer storm to follow Mueller's firing would be like nothing we've seen before.

Aides and outside allies described Trump as shaken and increasingly frustrated by the development, and they said his reaction had sparked discussion about whether the raid would usher an unpredictable new phase in how the president responds to the probe. "No person, not even the President, is above the law". The special counsel has already produced federal indictments against several Trump associates, including his ex-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn.

"Republicans and Democrats need to make clear that they will not allow President Trump or anyone on his behalf to interfere with or attempt to impede any of these ongoing and serious investigations".

Agents reportedly seized communications between Cohen and Trump, tax documents and records related to Cohen's $130,000 payment, made days before the 2016 election. It's an attack on our country in a true sense. But we can't stand by and allow it to happen in America.

Now Trump can say, with some hope that large numbers of attentive Americanos will agree with him, that, "There wasn't any Russian collusion, which is what this counsel was supposed to be in business to investigate".

When radicals like Holder say they want peaceful protests, they are lying.

Back in the real world that exists outside of MSNBC, Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said on Fox News Channel that the heavy-handed raid made it a "dangerous day today for lawyer-client relations".

The FBI did not disclose why they were targeting Cohen and what they were looking for, but recent reports suggest it has something to do with either the Stormy Daniels scandal or the special counsel's Russian collusion investigation.

Under Justice Department regulations, Mueller is required to consult with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein when his investigators uncover new evidence that may fall outside his original mandate. Now with this major escalation by Mueller, the Left smells blood in the water and Trump-haters are becoming increasingly crazed and detached from reality. Rosenstein then would decide whether or not to permit Mueller to proceed or to assign the matter to a different USA legal professional or one other a part of the Justice Division. "Again, they found nothing and in finding nothing, that's a big statement". But I think it's really a sad situation when you look at what happened. In exchange for that payment, Trump made an appearance at a conference about Ukrainian politics.

Hannity also took exception to Cohen being roped into Mueller's investigation on the grounds that Cohen is not involved with the Trump administration in an official capacity.
