Michael Avenatti asked in a tweet.

Cohen did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cohen is being represented by his personal lawyer, David Schwartz, who returned fire at Avenatti last week in a radio interview, calling the attorney a "PR machine" and the case "a complete bunch of nonsense". Initially, Stormy Daniels not only denied the affair, but also the existence of a non-disclosure agreement.

President Donald Trump talks with reporters aboard Air Force One on a flight to Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Thursday, April 5, 2018.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, told CBS television's 60 Minutes program that she was not attracted to Trump, who was 60 at the time of their affair.

Nearly immediately after the president's statements were reported, Daniels' attorney challenged him to make them under oath.

In his first public remarks about Daniels' allegations, Trump said aboard Air Force One that he did not know where his attorney, Michael Cohen, got the money to pay Daniels.

"As history teaches us", he added, "it is one thing to deceive the press and quite another to do so under oath".

Daniels has argued that an agreement she signed to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump is invalid because the now-president never signed it. However, she has since admitted to signing an NDA in exchange for $130,000 amid threats from the now-President's camp and fears for her family's safety.
