Sixers' Joel Embiid to undergo more tests, miss at least two games

As bad as it sounds, no matter who were to fill in for Embiid if his absence were to extend into the postseason, there's no replacing the dominant impact the former Kansas star displays most games.

However, he later began experiencing symptoms, has since been diagnosed with a concussion, and has been placed in the NBA's concussion protocol. Embiid was averaging 22.9 points and 11 rebounds per game despite minutes restrictions and was named an All-Star.

The collision occurred just 20 seconds into the second quarter when Markelle Fultz was trying to drive towards the hoop. He was ruled out for the rest of the game, though, and taken to a hospital, where more testing took place and revealed a much more concerning situation than the initial diagnosis of a "facial contusion".

According to a statement released Thursday, Embiid was asymptomatic when checked for a concussion immediately after the injury and passed the NBA's concussion assessment.

Joel Embiid has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. So the best case scenario would be for Embiid to get the surgery over the weekend and come back on the short end of the recovery timetable and then be ready for the playoffs with a mask. My heart dropped. He's a tough guy.

This isn't good news for the Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia now owns the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race, and has already clinched a spot.

The Sixers remain a half game behind Cleveland for the third spot in the East, so the team will really need to cut down on mistakes more than usual and stay aggressive, despite just playing the Hawks on Friday. After the game, Fultz sent out prayers for his recovering teammate. "All I can do is pray for him".
