The state and federal unemployment figures diverged in October, when North Carolina's rate rose to 4.5 percent and the national level fell to 4.1 percent. Since January 2017, Kansas gained 9,100 seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs and 7,500 private sector jobs. The increase in home prices and the number of homes sold resulted in an additional $500 million in home sales, up 10.9 percent from January 2017.

There was a loss of 1,100 in trade, transportation and utilities jobs and a loss of 1,000 in the "other services" category. Other industry sectors adding jobs over the month were leisure & hospitality (6,400), manufacturing (2,100), other services (1,100), government (1,100) and financial activities (1,000).
