Why are the Detroit Lions interested in Richard Sherman?

Former Seattle Seahawks corner Richard Sherman could find himself in the NFC West again next season as he is scheduled to meet with the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, according to a report by Adam Schefter.

As reported by Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, Kyle Shanahan was seen having dinner in Los Gatos with the 29-year-old cornerback and his wife shortly after his release from the Seattle Seahawks on Friday afternoon.

Of course, this is all dependent on Sherman actually leaving Northern California without a contract.

Viewed as many as the NFL's best cover cornerback for much of the past seven seasons since entering the league from Stanford, Sherman has shown exceptional awareness and ball skills during his career.

The Seahawks had wanted Sherman to stay in 2018, but due to concerns of his age (he turns 30 later this month) and his Achilles injury had recently approached him about restructuring his contract and taking a pay cut. On March 1, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he expected Sherman to remain in walking boot for a few more weeks.

Bringing in a player of Sherman's stature would send a strong message that the Panthers want to make another Super Bowl in the final season for Davis and center Ryan Kalil, both of whom have said they will retire after 2018. He had surgery on his left Achilles to remove bone spurs in January. This will be an ongoing process and I am excited to take on this challenge.

He also turned his tongue to players.

Sherman has been a free agent for less than 24 hours. Prior to the injury, the 5-time Pro Bowler had never missed a game.
