Having had successful surgery on his fifth metatarsal in his right foot, Neymar will be assessed by PSG in six weeks to determine when he will return to training.

Neymar is supposedly hell-bent on making a full recovery from his injury to star for Brazil in Russian Federation, with surgery representing the best possible outcome for his foot in the long run.

The world's most expensive footballer was using crutches to walk and wearing a big protective boot on his right foot.

"The operation, conducted by Doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, was successful".

His recovery will be monitored by Brazil and PSG physiotherapist Rafael Martini, who has been working alongside Neymar since he started his career at Santos in Sao Paulo.

"The recovery time will depend on the player's recovery".

The Brazilian team will play its first match in the 2018 Russia World Cup against Switzerland on June 17 after which they will go up against Costa Rica on the 22nd and close out the group phase against Serbia on the 27th. The operation was to fix a cracked fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

No official return date has been set for the superstar as of yet, but Lasmar has previously estimated that it could take approximately two-and-a-half to three months before Neymar is back.

"Neymar is sad, but understands he has no alternative now. In six weeks we will make a new evaluation", Rodrigo Lasmar said after performing the operation. "He will devote himself to being well as soon as possible".

The Ligue 1 leaders face Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday.
