Blizzard Teases Diablo III for Switch

A tweet from the official Blizzard account on Tuesday shows the big red guy himself, Diablo, as a light switch getting turned on and off. Fans speculated in the comments that this was a teaser for a port of the dungeon crawler.

The short video in question showcases a Diablo-themed nightlight being Switched off and on. This side of the debate is backed up by a post made by South Park that said "Nin-ten-do". Now, it looks like the Nintendo Switch may also get a version of the game. Blizzard reached out to Polygon via phone call denying the recent buzz, but leaving it suspiciously open ended with an "we have nothing to announce". Blizzard bringing Diablo 3 to the Switch doesn't sound awful, eventhough the console versions of these games have been inferior to the PC release.

"We can assure you we're not that clever", a spokesperson for Blizzard Entertainment said via email.

Releasing old games on a new platform is always a bit of a risk as the developer really needs to know it will sell well enough to make the work of porting the game worthwhile. A not so subtle reference to Diablo III heading to the Switch perhaps?

It's fantastic that Diablo 3, a game released six years ago, can still inspire this much excitement. The company brought Diablo 3 to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, then to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One the following year.

Blizzard North was indeed working on Diablo 3 at one point but, the game was scrapped and while Blizzard delivered a fresh new take on the game but, it was a buggy mess and littered with server issues.

But this isn't the first time a cute Blizzard tweet has led to speculation that didn't pan out.
