After backlash, AIADMK decides to alter Jaya's statue

"Thus, a woman's future is secured, the entire house future is secured", Modi said.

Modi symbolically handed over the keys and registration certificates of two wheelers to five women on the occasion, reports PTI.

"When we empower women in a family, we empower the entire household", PM Modi said while addressing the gathering after the launch of the scheme. The policy also allows only one woman per family to utilize the scheme.

"When we help with a woman's education, we ensure that the family is educated", he said.

Stressing on the achievements of his government, Modi said the focus is on improving "Ease of Living" for the common citizen.

Under the scheme, named after Jayalalithaa, the state government offers a Rs 25,000 subsidy for women to buy two-wheelers, NDTV reported.

Modi also said that 9.5 lakh women in Tamil Nadu have benefitted from the Ujjwala Yojana.

He said 70 lakh saplings would be planted through out the year and also thanked the Prime Minister for lauding the ancient language Tamil recently. Under 13th Finance Commission, the state received only ₹81,000 crore from the Congress-led Centre.

Palaniswami utilised the presence of Modi on the dais and requested him to take necessary steps to set up the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee as per the apex court's order in the Cauvery river water dispute case.

'Dr Namadhu MGR, ' which was founded by Ms Jayalalithaa and previously was the official Tamil daily of the AIADMK, is now aligned towards sidelined leader T T V Dhinakaran and V K Sasikala, who is in jail. The "Amma" two wheeler scheme will go a long way in empowering women in the state, he added. Hailing Modi, Panneerselvam said the Prime Minister was "courageously leading India".

Cadres of BJP, ruling AIADMK holding their party flags and the general public lined up both sides of the road welcoming Modi to the venue, 'Kalaivanar Arangam'.

The former chief minister had promised 50 per cent subsidy on scooters for working ladies in the state during the run-up to the 2016 assembly elections.

The prime minister is on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
