We'll see what's next for McGregor, and the UFC might get creative and put together a matchup for him that we all love, but there's no doubt it's a disappointment he never wanted to defend the lightweight belt, robbing the fans of the opportunity to watch some fantastic fights.

UFC President Dana White just cleared the air on everything Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather, and Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov related.

McGregor last fought in a boxing ring, losing to Floyd Mayweather by TKO in the 10th round last August. "Because I am here". It's a lot of money.

It's been well over a year since McGregor stepped into the Octagon, when he won the lightweight title at UFC 205 beating Eddie Alvarez in November 2016.

Edgar (22-5-1 MMA, 16-5-1 UFC) repeatedly has asked to face McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) in the past but to no avail.

With his impending return, the UFC could use his star power to rejuvenate the MMA world. He went on to add he personally reached out to the UFC after Holloway's injury withdrawal at the end of 2017, only to be told by the promotion chiefs they can not even get McGregor to fight in his own weight class.

After Ferguson and Nurmagomedov square off, however, White still hopes to see McGregor fight the victor for the title.

But the Dublin native suggests he is ready to return: "Taking out the final featherweight, without all of the rest of the stuff that comes with this game". Edgar's longtime manager, Ali Abdelaziz, called the champ an offensive name and denied his claim that he was a potential replacement at UFC 222.

Attempting to save a UFC card on short notice isn't anything new for McGregor who, in part, built his name on a willingness to fight anyone on short notice regardless of weight.

McGregor made the comments on social media Thursday.

"Please respect the insane amount of work outside the fight game that I have put in".

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor hasn't fought in over a year and has no fight now booked.

Edgar is now scheduled to take on Brian Ortega at UFC 222, but would you still be interested in seeing "The Answer" take on McGregor?
