In fact, Ryan Coogler's opening weekend for Black Panther is the highest for any non-white director, surpassing James Wan's $147 million (Rs 953 crore) for Furious 7 in 2016. Directed by Ryan Coogler, "Black Panther" picks up T'challa's story right after the events of "Captain America: Civil War" where we first met him as he deals with the aftermath of his father's death and his ascension to the throne. If "Black Panther" continues to draw in moviegoers like Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy and Wonder Woman, results could be even bigger and could approach $500 million.

Black Panther is now playing in theaters. T'Challa is aided by his techie sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright); Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), his ex and a spy; and Okoye (Danai Gurira), general of his all-female guard. Obviously, this never ended up happening in the film, she did sport the Panther gauntlets that she is wearing in the artwork during the film's climactic battle.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige has spoken warmly of Coogler, and has already said that he'd be interested in working with the director again for a Black Panther sequel. Still, Black Panther's record Tuesday beats the record-holder for pre-summer, Beauty and the Beast a year ago with $17.8 million, and also beats the record holder in the Marvel Universe, The Avengers, at $17 million.

"Proposal at 10:15 Black Panther showing at Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn, man dressed up as Black Panther proposed to his fiancé (she said yes) who he knew would be here with her girlfriends".

A prevailing belief among some in Hollywood has been that movies with mostly black casts don't do well at the foreign box office, but Disney reported $169 million in worldwide ticket sales - a figure expected to climb dramatically when "Black Panther" opens in major markets including China, Japan and Russian Federation.

"As a kid, growing up, when you see somebody who looks like an older version of you doing something awesome, it's like, 'What's going on?' That's kind of what that moment". "If you have any good ideas, put it in the movie you're making".

Hollis added that more "Black Panther" ticket buyers were in the 18-24 and 25-39 age brackets than is typical for a Marvel superhero movie. "Marvel just has the winning recipe and they're kind of one step ahead of everybody else", he said.
