Ronaldo scores as Real Madrid survive Betis scare

Marcelo hobbled off after half an hour of Sunday's eight-goal thriller at the Benito Villamarin with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

The injury is the latest to hit the Madrid squad since their 3-1 win over PSG in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 last week.

Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane, though, was more optimistic, per AS: "Hopefully Marcelo's [injury] isn't much". He said that the sensation is that it is small, but we will see in a few days. He scored from a tight angle against Real Betis last night to take his tally to 25 goals for the season from 29 games with a goal-scoring average of 0.86 goals per game.

Real Madrid seem to have found their mojo back and will be high on confidence coming into the game, following their win over PSG.

"I don't know how many years in a row he has played 60 or 70 games, but he doesn't stop", Zidane told a pre-match news conference.

"Betis are in fantastic form, and played very well".

The attacking midfielder has been threatening the previously assumed attacking pecking-order at Madrid, with the "BBC" trio of Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo no longer certain after an indifferent first half of the season. I'm happy with the victory. "I'll keep the fact that we scored five".

But, despite Madrid still being a point adrift of third-place Valencia prior to playing a game in hand they have held since the Club World Cup, head coach Zidane is pondering whether to give his talisman a breather.

Real Betis pulled off one of the shock victories of the season when they faced off against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu back in September.

"We started the game very well then we sat back and when we did that it was a different game". "With the quality we have, and when we are all together like that, it is hard for any opponent". "Things stay in the dressing room, but it's true I spoke with them, to explain some things, and we did much better in the second half".
