Georgia officer killed while trying to serve arrest warrant

Three law enforcement officers were shot while serving a warrant in central Georgia Friday morning, one fatally, officials say.

The Locust Grove officer died at the scene.

Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer said gunfire broke out as the officers were serving an arrest warrant around 11 a.m.at a home in Locust Grove, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) southeast of Atlanta.

Henry County's sheriff said the man who shot the officers is dead.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.

"The Locust Grove police officer died shortly after at the hospital". The slain suspect has been identified by authorities but his name will not be released until his next of kin are notified, said Nelly Miles of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.Images on local television showed police tape around two homes in a cul-de-sac of a Locust Grove subdivision. Both were wearing bulletproof vests, but the deputy in serious condition was shot below the vest. Price said the 26-year-old officer's wife is pregnant and expecting their second child any day.


"The other sheriff's deputy is in fair condition at Atlanta Medical", McBrayer said.

"We just can't believe this happened", he said.

Police blocked off the subdivision and were not letting those who don't live there enter.

Tanger Outlet is located on I-75 at Locust Grove Road.

"It's scary because you never know who is in your neighborhood".
