With a new firmware update, you generally get some new bells, whistles and features to (hopefully) improve your experience.

Sony's 5.0 system update includes a feature called Play Time Management, along with changes to the Library, wallpaper customizations, and a supersampling mode that helps 4K games pop on 1080p TVs.

One of the most significant changes brought in with the v5.50 firmware update is the ability to change to custom wallpapers from an external storage system. These allowed assigned Family Managers to easily control what each individual child plays, watches and views online. The child would be notified during gameplay so that they get the chance to save and quit their game. The settings also allow parents or guardians to set the PS4 to log out when the child's play session ends, and also to add to or cut game time. You can also upload custom wallpapers to make your PS4 system truly your own.

Even if you are not in the beta program, we wanted to give you a sneak preview of features you can expect in this update.

The option to fully customize your team's tournament page will be available. To set your logo and background, head over to Events Teams select your team Edit Team Profile. Family Managers can set their kids Play Time limits on the PS4 itself or through PSN on the web.

Other additions to 5.50 beta include additional lists in your library, where you can see all of your PS Plus games since you joined in a new, specific section.

Are you anxious about how long your kids are playing video games? In 'Options, ' you can hide content including betas, trials or demos of games that you probably won't be going back to. Now users can message and invite friends faster than ever via the new Quick Menu. This is meant to let you know you can re-subscribe to regain access to the game in question.

Whenever you're listening to music on PS4, you'll be able to access certain shortcuts from the Quick Menu. Old notifications can now be permanently deleted. Users may also press the "triangle" button to play or pause music when they are on the Media Player or the USB Music Player.

With Background Music on PS Now, you'll be able to listen to your favorite tracks while streaming a game on PS Now.

For PS4 Pro users, Sony is including a new supersampling mode that will allow HDTVs with 1080p or less resolution to enjoy the enhanced visual experience when they are playing PS4 games. Please note performance will vary, as games are optimised differently to take advantage of the power of PS4 Pro.
