A Richardson police officer and civilian are dead after a shooting, according to the Richardson Police Department.

The Richardson police officer was fatally shot while responding to a disturbance at the Breckinridge Point Apartments about 20 miles outside Dallas on Wednesday night, the Morning News reported.

"When the officers got out here, we had one victim that was down", Perlich said. Police said he continued to fire shots, but was taken into custody a few hours later. Suspect remains barricaded at apartment complex near E. Renner and North Star Roads. A DPS helicopter is overhead, according to officials at the scene. The officer was taken to Medical City Plano.

Richardson police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Perlich said the condition of the wounded person wasn't immediately known.

Later, explosions were heard before the suspect was apprehended. One officer, responding to a disturbance call, was shot, as well as one civilian.

The Richardson officer was the second law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty this week. He died days later.
