Colorado deputy, suspect killed, four others wounded

The Colorado Springs Police Department has identified the man who they say was involved in the gunfight that led to the death of an El Paso County deputy Monday afternoon.

The suspect was also shot and killed, he died at the scene of the.

The deadly force investigation team has been activated and CSPD is leading the investigation.

Authorities said Flick and other officers were investigating a stolen vehicle in Colorado Springs when they approached a suspect, struggled with him and gunfire began.

One Colorado Springs police officer was wounded and in surgery.

CSPD identified the injured officer as detective Marcus Yanez. "I also want the community to know that this is a fearless agency and that the men and women of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will continue to serve this community".

Ten Colorado law enforcement officers, including the three fallen deputies, have been shot in the three separate incidents during the same time period.

Micah Flick was marking his 11th anniversary as a sheriff's deputy in Colorado's El Paso County when he and some colleagues were looking into a report of a vehicle theft on Monday.

"It is heartbreaking to hear a mom and wife explain to the children that dad has been killed and is now with Jesus", Elder said.

Flick, a 34-year-old who was called an "outstanding member" of the department, is the third sheriff's deputy shot and killed in the line of duty in the state of Colorado since December 31.

The somber words, "You're clear for end of watch", were said over police radio channels 129 times in 2017, marking 129 members of law enforcement killed while on duty.
