"For realising the potential of Assam, Advantage Assam is our honest efforts to turn the State into a prime hub of economic activity and to explore all possibilities with Southeast Asia by reviving our age-old links with the region, said Sonwal".

Guwahati: While making a hard pitch for his government's economic policies and reforms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday courted the Northeast by claiming that the north-eastern states' development is intrinsic to India's growth story.

The Prime Minister said, the highest 60 billion USA dollars FDI came to India in 2016-17.

Two more oil firms Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) also evinced interest to invest Rs 3,432 crore and Rs 3,410 crore, respectively, the spokesperson said. Modi said his government has changed the functioning style of the official machinery and it was now working with greater speed.

Talking to reporters after arriving here on his maiden trip to the state, Ghai said, "Assam has the potential and strong will to welcome industry. With the present leadership of the State Government, Assam is going to further improve its current position to emerge as one of the most sought after states for investment". "We want all projects to be completed before target", he said. "Rail connectivity between Tripura and Bangladesh will also be developed", he said.

He said the Government of Assam is fully geared up for its first maiden Global Investors' Summit.
