Statewide minimum wage hike starts today

A HuffPost YouGov poll previous year found that more than half of all Americans thought a minimum wage raise would be good for workers, while only a third thought it would be a bad idea.

The second in a series of statewide minimum wage increases begins today.

ME is one of 18 states, including three in New England, raising wages in January.

However, Goodell said he does sympathize with the working poor and how hard it is to balance a budget on minimum wage.

Minimum wage workers are already making more than that in Emeryville, where the minimum wage is $15.20 - reportedly the highest rate in the country. If pay rates had increased in parallel with those of chief executives, then it should have been £12.74 an hour, which works out to nearly £12,000 more than people are now paid.

The minimum wage is slowly being increased to $15 an hour in NY. The increase will be phased in over a longer period for workers in the rest of the state.

Todd Tranum, the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce President, expressed his concerns as well. Block says MI has the highest state minimum wage in the region.

"We though are concerned about further efforts to increase that and make MI an even greater outlier in this area", says Block.

The wage applies to all Florida workers who are covered by the federal minimum wage, according to the Department of Economic Opportunity.

"We see the $12 an hour as being a pathway to economic justice", says Farris. "Additionally, more costs and regulations make NY less competitive with other regions in terms of economic growth".
