Erica Garner died this morning, Saturday, Dec. 30 at Woodhull hospital in Brooklyn, New York.

The 27-year-old mother of an 8-year-old girl and 4-month old boy had a heart attack on December 23 and was on life support in a Brooklyn hospital. Family members gave conflicting reports about her status Thursday.

Garner went into cardiac arrest earlier in the week and suffered major brain damage from a lack of oxygen, her Twitter account said.

"Her heart was bigger than the world", another tweet posted to her account read.

The 27-year-old was a prominent social justice activist who spearheaded protests against police brutality.

Eric Garner died on Staten Island in July 2014, after being put in a chokehold by police officer Daniel Pantaleo. His obvious last words - "I can't relax!"

His death, which was ruled a homicide, helped to inspire the Black Lives Matter movement.

"Many will state that Erica kicked the bucket of a heart assault, however that is just in part evident in light of the fact that her heart was at that point broken when she couldn't get equity for her dad", he said. "What do you want from marching?' He was my father", Garner told NBC News in 2015.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, in announcing Garner's death Saturday, says she fought for justice and was "a warrior to the end". It spreads into families, friends, and communities, #EricaGarner should still be with us and I'll always blame the NYPD for killing her father and now her. Rest In Peace and power, sis. She died in a NY hospital. It was during the pregnancy that she was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and suffered her first heart attack shortly after the delivery.

An activist and writer, Erica had become an outspoken voice in the fight against police brutality. A jury voted not to indict Pantaleo on criminal charges and he remains on the force. She also appeared in a campaign commercial for Sen.

In 2016, she met with President Obama after she took to Twitter to express her outrage that she was not given the opportunity to speak with the commander in chief at a town hall in the nation's capital.

"My thoughts are with Erica Garner, her family and friends in hoping that she has a full recovery and rejoins the struggle for justice as soon as possible". Then for her own life. Her father didn't deserve this.

Eric Garner's daughter, Erica Garner, passed away at age 27 after suffering a heart attack.
