The constable immediately slapped Kumari back.

An Indian Congress legislator in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday hit a woman constable after she was stopped from entering the party office in Shimla and was slapped back by the police official.

Sources said even the Congress President expressed concern over the incident and told the Congress men to have patience.

After the incident, the Congress president disapproved Kumari's action of slapping the woman police constable on duty. "She (woman constable) abused me and pushed me, she should have shown restraint, I am her mother's age, but yes I agree I should not have lost my temper. I will not tolerate indiscipline in the party". In a matter of seconds, Kumari was left bewildered when the said lady constable retaliated, slapping the veteran Congress legislator in return.

At a Congress meeting later, Rahul said it was not Congress culture to slap anybody.

However, the constable has filed a complaint against the MLA. Asha Kumari, All India Congress Committee secretary and AICC in-charge of Punjab, is a member of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Dalhousie.

When the incident happened, Rahul was inside the party office where he was meeting MLAs, defeated candidates and local leaders to discuss the defeat of the Congress.

During a day-long visit to Shimla, the Congress President will review the party's performance in the recently-held Himachal Pradesh assembly election. BJP had won 44 seats in the elections.
