TriStar gym head coach Firas Zahabi has been trying to get the McGregor fight to happen since GSP returned to action last month and defeated Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight belt.

During the build-up to the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight Mayweather teased several times that he'd fight in the UFC next, and the Irishman welcomed that opportunity with open arms.

"You guys know I didn't believe that McGregor-Mayweather would happen and it did, so anything is possible".

Conor McGregor's future in the UFC remains a grand mystery, with the lightweight champion's return to the Octagon appearing to be far less of a formality than it did this time past year.

White also stated, in an interview on Undisputed, that the victor of the UFC 219 fight between Edson Barboza and Khabib Nurmagomedov could determine the next fight for Ferguson while he is awaiting the return of McGregor.

White, however, has continually maintained that the UFC is in talks about bringing the 50-0 boxer into the fold. I don't think the guy wants to fight. We both knew what was going on.

He's the president, but if his WMG overlords want a massive money fight, they'll get GSP and McGregor in a room.

"Get through the holidays, and hopefully he starts to get the itch to come back and hopefully we can get him back this summer", said White. "And I still don't", White said on Undisputed. McGregor's optimal fight weight is arguably 155 pounds.

"Money is always a factor, but we've never had a problem getting a deal done with Conor McGregor", White said.

"Tony Ferguson is the fight right now and is the move if (McGregor) wants to come back". "I think he jumped in, grabbed some cash and went back to Canada".
