Price of gas drops in Hartford County

The price has risen 11 percent from a year ago at this time, when it was averaging $2.28 per gallon in the state.

The average price of gas in Bakersfield has fallen approximately 3.4 cents per gallon in the past week, according to GasBuddy's survey of 300 gas outlets in Bakersfield.

On Monday, average prices in Rockford were at $2.48 per gallon.

States with the highest average gasoline prices: Hawaii ($3.29), Alaska ($3.10), California ($3.07), Washington ($2.88), OR ($2.73), Pennsylvania ($2.69), Nevada ($2.66), CT ($2.64), NY ($2.63) and Montana ($2.59).

That's up 21 cents from past year at this same time.

AAA says that the increase in demand is likely the cause because more drivers are on the road as they travel home from the holidays.


Nationally, gas prices have gone down over the last month and stayed pretty flat over the last week. Today, it's 30 cents higher, $2.38. The lowest was $2.23 on July 5.

Tennessee: the highest average price was $2.60 on September 10. Tampa is the cheapest at $2.29, followed by Jacksonville ($2.30) and Orlando ($2.31).

The highest price on record is $4.11 a gallon, recorded in July 2008.

Average gas prices in Western Massachusetts are 21 cents higher than on this day past year.
