Giants suspend Eli Apple for remainder of season

Just hours after he suffered a season-ending fractured forearm, Giants safety Landon Collins hopped on the radio with The Michael Kay Show (hosted by Bob Wischusen) on 98.7 FM ESPN in NY and delivered an eyebrow-raising quote about teammate Eli Apple.

Apple was notified of the suspension this afternoon in a meeting with interim general manager Kevin Abrams and interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Collins was on "The Michael Kay Show on 98.7 ESPN New York" when he made the comment, stating that he "loves" fellow defensive backs Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Janoris Jenkins, but has an issue with Apple.

"There's only just one corner that. needs to grow, and we all know who that is", Collins said.

It's not the first time Collins has openly criticized Apple. He and Apple met separately with Spagnuolo and then all three talked. They play hard. They love what they do.

No, Apple is not the reason the Giants are 2-13 with the most losses in a single-season in franchise history.

I guess he don't remember things, "Collins said on December 14 when reporters relayed Apple's reaction". But that first pick?

He will miss the Giants' regular season finale vs. the Redskins on Sunday. That may not seem overly odd outside of the fact that Apple was a first round pick in 2016 and, after a lot of on-field team as a rookie, he has disappeared amid disciplinary measures and general benching.

Apple joined the Giants as the 10 selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The New York Post reported last month that Apple almost left the team facility after he was criticized for making bad plays during a film session. His mom underwent brain surgery during the season.

The Giants fired GM Jerry Reese - who drafted Apple - and coach Ben McAdoo on December 4. After bringing new meaning to the phrase "sophomore slump" nine games into the season, Apple was called out during a film session, to which he responded by threatening to leave the team facility.
