Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho underlined his importance to the Reds ahead of the transfer window with a fine individual display in a comfortable 5-0 win over Premier League strugglers Swansea City on Tuesday, AFP reports.

Against Swansea at Anfield, Coutinho produced a true Boxing Day bang, scoring an outrageous goal just six minutes into the match to break the deadlock for Jurgen Klopp's side. Roberto Firmino's double and strikes from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain completed a convincing victory.

"So we had these few problems and in the second half we did it better".

'I spoke about consistency of performance and I really think we are there. I think the first three goals were from counter-pressing situations, that's good and it looks like when you see the result is 5-0 that it was an easy game but it wasn't an easy game.

"We can't ignore that, but apart from that, not really".

The result moves Liverpool a point clear of Spurs, while Swansea - still under the caretaker charge of Leon Britton after the sacking of Paul Clement last week - remains at the foot of the table and five points from safety.

Firmino has been in top form for Liverpool FC this season and has now scored nine goals in the Premier League for Klopp's men so far.

"It is a ideal result for us, nobody injured I don't think". They want to defend first of all, because I know that's the basis for everything. As players, we've all been in situations where it's hard afternoons, but you still remain professional and do the right things and do the right job for the team. Paul Clement subsequently lost his job, and with the side rooted to the bottom of the table, getting anything from this second trip to Liverpool in just over a week would prove hard.

"I'm part of it, of course it's the players out on the pitch".
