Police respond to an explosion at the Port Authority bus terminal on Monday in NY.

Ullah, who lives in Brooklyn, was taken into custody and rushed to Bellevue Hospital with burns on his abdomen and hands.

The Port Authority issued a tweet saying, "The Port Authority Bus Terminal is open".

Mayor Bill de Blasio called the incident an "attempted terrorist attack", while Police Commissioner James O'Neill called it a "terror-related incident".

The person arrested had a pipe bomb strapped to him when it went off on a subway platform, a law enforcement official said.

The 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, N, Q, R, W and 7 lines are bypassing the Times Square station.

The explosion took place in Midtown at an intersection near the Port Authority Bus Terminal on Monday morning.

- Cuomo said it was an amateur, "effectively low-tech device".

- Ullah told investigators he was motivated in part by pro-ISIS Christmas attack propaganda circulated about a month ago online with an image of Santa Claus over Times Square, a law enforcement source told CNN.

"From what I saw it sounded like it came from the subway, but I'm just guessing", he said.

"Our lives revolve around the subway", DeBlasio said.

- He began researching how to build improvised explosive devices about a year ago, began collecting the necessary items two to three weeks ago, and built the bomb in his home a week ago, the complaint states. The family says it expects more from the justice system. "They said 'suspicious package'".

A man was charged with killing eight people and injuring a dozen others as he drove a pickup truck down a bicycle path near the World Trade Center on Halloween. "And let's also be clear, this was an attempted terrorist attack".

President Donald Trump has been briefed on the explosion in New York City, said White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

"This is NY, the reality is that we are a target by many who would like to make a statement against democracy, against freedom", Governor Cuomo said.
