It is also very convenient for Trump Jr. because the questions surrounding who knew what and when about the June 9 meeting are a central part of the investigation into collusion between the campaign and Russian Federation.

It was at least the second time Trump Jr has testified to a congressional committee investigating any Russian meddling in the election and possible collusion with Moscow by the Trump campaign. The Senate panel expects to talk to him later this month. That testimony was also private, but Trump Jr.'s opening statement leaked to the media, and his explanations only raised more questions than answers.

When questioned about details concerning the conversation between himself and President Trump, Donald Trump Jr. refused to provide details and invoked attorney-client privilege because of the presence of attorneys during the exchange with his father, according to California representative Adam Schiff.

She also said that when he found that she did not have any dirt on the Clintons, Trump Jr appeared to lose interest.

As legal experts and House Democrats were quick to point out, "That's not how it works". He acknowledged having discussed the June 9 meeting and the emails that went into establishing that meeting after those emails became public. That suggests to Jacobovitz that the Trump team is anxious about what investigators know, especially now that former national security adviser Michael Flynn has flipped sides. The Washington Post's Philip Rucker and Carol D. Leonnig explain.

No, he can't. It wasn't even his attorney, it was one of Trump's attorneys.

"Mr Trump was cooperative at all times", Conaway said. But his explanation for the meeting changed three times. Was Trump eluding to the meeting in question? It does not cover conversations between two non-lawyers like Trump Jr. and his father simply because there happened to be an attorney in the room.

Add Trump Jr.'s changing explanation of Russian Federation to the list. Agent doesn't necessarily mean something like an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent or KGB agent.

In some ways, what happened afterward is more important than the fact the meeting took place, because it could provide evidence (or dispute allegations) that the Trump campaign actively worked with Russian Federation.

According to Committee Democrats, most of the 8-hour interview revolved around the younger Trump's notorious meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya at Trump Tower June of 2016, though some questions focused on Trump Jr.'s correspondence with WikiLeaks. The head of the CIA has described WikiLeaks, which hacked into Democratic emails during the campaign, as a "non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russian Federation". "He acknowledged discussing that meeting with his father".

Some of Trump's fellow Republicans criticized Mueller, the FBI and the Department of Justice at a news conference on Wednesday, ahead of congressional testimony on Thursday by the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray.
